New Volunteer Opportunity:

CCARC is embarking on a "document retention project."  Volunteers will scan documents to be saved to an external drive and catalogued for safe keeping.  This will help us organize our information and save precious storage space by reducing the need to keep paper records.  If you are interested in assisting CCARC with this project, please call Jessica Odom at 251-246-3120.

Clarke County "Day of Caring"

Volunteer groups from the Clarke County Kingdom Builders and Boise came to CCARC to provide mush needed repairs around our facility.  We appreciate them for all that was accomplished that day!

CCARC's Annex gets a much needed touch up.

Mr. McClure of the Clarke County Kingdom Builders lends a helping hand.

The group from Boise did an "Extreme Makeover" on a CCARC storage shed!

Several coats of primer and paint made the shed look great!

Boise employees also built benches for CCARC in no time at all!

VOLUNTEERING AT CCARC

CCARC wants to introduce a new program called Friday Friends.

What is Friday Friends?

CCARC recognizes that for individuals with intellectual disabilities, who live in the community, it is difficult to have a full social life.  During the week, most people work or attend CCARC’s Day Habilitation program and are given opportunities to socialize and recreate.  However, for a variety of reasons the weekends are sometimes lonely and uneventful.  People usually spend their weekends relaxing and participating in social activities.  This should be no different for adults with intellectual disabilities.  This program will work with volunteers in the community to provide these experiences and create a full and meaningful life.

How does the Friday Friends program work?

CCARC staff will generate a list of opportunities that people would like to experience.  It may be as simple as a ride to the local football game on Friday night to a shopping trip in a nearby town.  You, as a volunteer, will look at the list of opportunities and find the one that best fits your availability.  Keep in mind that just because it is called Friday Friends, that doesn’t mean you are limited to Friday’s only.  You can volunteer at anytime if that fits the needs of the person.  If the opportunity is ongoing in nature you can continue to provide this support  for as long as you wish.  If you have the time and the desire you can provide multiple opportunities to a variety of individuals.  The program provides a vast array of opportunities that will enrich your life  as well as the life of the individual you support.

How do I become a Friday Friend?

To become a Friday Friend you must complete a volunteer application and screening process.  You will also attend a training program.  Once your training is complete, then you will look at the roster of opportunities and begin your new friendship!  It is that simple!
